About the event

Anya Hinkle & Billy Cardine on US tour | return to Wild Eye Pub
Anya Hinkle released her newest album OCEANIA, produced by Kevin Moloney (U2, Sinéad O’Connor) and is touring internationally in 2025 in various configurations, with appearances at major festivals such as La Roche Bluegrass Festival (France), Moab Folk Festival (Moab, UT), Richmond Folk Festival (VA), and Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival (OakHill, NY), finishing the year with a full tour in Japan.

Asheville, NC-based roots artists Anya Hinkle (vocals, guitar) and Billy Cardine (Dobro) team up for an intimate exploration of acoustic music rooted in the sounds of Appalachia and seasoned by their travels around the globe. Following international tours in Japan, Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, and throughout the US and Hawai’i over the past year, they were recipients of the prestigious US Artist International grant from Mid Atlantic Arts to bring their surprisingly dynamic range of styles and influences to France in 2025. Originally from the Appalachian Mountains of Virginia, Anya Hinkle's music is steeped in the tones of folk and mountain music, featuring award-winning songwriting, vibrant musicianship, and striking honesty.

About Oceania, Americana Highways writes, “This North Carolina singer-songwriter has an engagingly smooth-toned classic vocal...She’s the real deal–melodic with rich traditional instincts...one of the year’s best.”

Oceania (2024, Red Parlor Records) is produced by veteran Irish producer Kevin Moloney (U2, Sinéad O’Connor) and features Celtic guitar legend John Doyle alongside slide guitar master Billy Cardine. Americana UK notes, “Hinkle delivers an absorbing vocal performance, full of character and soul...with her own distinctive sound,” while RnR Magazine (UK) says, "Her vocal style...has a mix of purity, intensity, and richness...it mirrors the music itself, individual, distinctive, and deeply satisfying.” Songs from the album were featured in No Depression and Folk Alley’s “Best Of” playlists, and the track “Eitil Away” won the USA Songwriting Competition in the World Category.

Billy Cardine is recognized as a pioneer of slide guitar, taking the Dobro into uncharted genres. Billy's unique voice on all things slide has led him to collaborate with Led Zeppelin's own John Paul Jones, world-renowned Edgar Meyer in his Porous Borders of Music, and dobro king Jerry Douglas, who stated, “Billy Cardine is an amazing Dobro player. He is fluent in everything that I do, and Josh Graves, and everybody that has come before. I couldn't have picked a better example for them of where the Dobro is now or what the possibilities are with the instrument.”

Hinkle has performed at many major US and international roots festivals and stages, including Merle Fest, the Richmond Folk Festival, the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival, the Earl Scruggs Festival, and Fall Grass/Planet Bluegrass, as well as the Bristol Rhythm & Roots festival. In Europe, she has headlined at the La Roche, Grenna and Herbe Bleue Bluegrass Festivals and tours annually in both Europe and Japan. Cardine has performed at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Ryman Auditorium, and major festivals such as Bonnaroo, MerleFest, and Rockygrass. As an internationally featured artist, he has toured in India, Nepal, Europe, Canada, and beyond.
